James 1:22-25
New King James Version (NKJV)
22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continuesin it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.
Red Solo Cup
God's word is communicated with several communication devices, bible, email, websites, blogs, telephone, text messaging, television, two-way radio's, Church, but who would ever thought of a "Red Solo Cup." I remember as a child the cup and string telephone. My brothers and I would play with them when we built forts and needed to communicate strategies for war against neighbor kids.
We see war all throughout the bible of rival tribes fighting, just as we see in today's world. War has become a part of everyday life! The world fights over cultural differences that frankly have become ridiculous. I served in the United States Army as a young man and found it to be one of the things that set me on the right path for life. I served in the Gulf War in 1990 as the 3rd Army Surgeon General's Aide.
The job was very insightful and prepared for a future in the Health Care field as a Director of Network Communications for more than 25 years. Network communications is a field full of many challenges with the ever changing ways to communicate, but not one more effective than the internet. God is using the internet to spread His word.
Yes, we see a lot of junk on the internet, but as Christians we choose the content we look at on a day-to-day basis. Debbie and I often talk about the days when the communication device was a telephone, television (NBC, CBS, ABC, PBS stations) in your house and a string and cups for the children. It was simple and effective.
It is important to listen to what God's Word says, but it is much more important to be a mirror of reflection of God's Word. The importance to obey it and to do what it says. We can measure the effectiveness of our Bible study time by the effect it has on our behavior and attitudes.
Do we put what we have studied into action? Do we reflect the Godly image as a mirror reflects are image? When we see this reflection does it communicate with us and others in manner that is pleasing to God?
These are questions that have answers, you and God know your heart! Toby Keith has a song out called "Red Solo Cup," which talks about how the cup talks to him through what he puts in it.
What do you put in your cup? Is it a cup that God would drink from?
Exodus 32:17
New King James Version (NKJV)
17 And when Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said to Moses, “There is a noise of war in the camp.”
